A message from the President & CEO...
The past year was marked by a number of economic challenges faced by all of us throughout the nation. For this reason, the board of directors has embarked upon an effort to make their annual conference target itself toward a Professional and Leadership Institute to focus on the new challenges faced by Latina women and youth for 2009 and beyond. It is important to note that Hispanic Women's Corporation will be offering significantly discounted early registration rates allowing for an automatic optional partial payment mechanism allowing affordability. Additional interim forums will be offered to continue to provide you with the best and latest information available given this environment. The Hispanic Women's Corporation will also bring together a special track of courses for small business owners who wish to focus on the development of their entrepreneurial development and problem solving. An additional focus will be placed in creating a job fair within the exhibit hall to respond to women seeking positions and upcoming college graduates. It is our hope that you find this new format responsive to the current environment as we wish to be responsive to all of you. SPECIAL NOTE: An invitation had been extended to our First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama, to be our keynote speaker for the Scholarship Benefit Luncheon. This invitation had been acknowledged and I was officially notified that unfortunately she would not be able to attend per request from the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) that she present before the International Olympic Committee to pitch the site selection committee in behalf of Chicago, Illinois. The First Lady sends her best to the National Hispanic Women's Conference attendees, our wonderful scholars and the Hispanic Women's Corporation also sends her the best in bringing the Olympics home to the United States on October 2nd!
